RAA Annual Dinner June 2nd

Wednesday June 2nd is the date for this year’s Annual Meeting and Dinner:

Redlands United Church of Christ,

168 Bellevue, Redlands

6 p.m. Wednesday, June 2nd

This is a potluck dinner, so bring your special dish—salad, main dish, or dessert.  Beverages and table service will be provided by RAA.

This is an important evening every year for RAA, with recognition of those members who have contributed so much of themselves to the running of the organization during this past year.  The new slate of Officers and Operating Committee members will be installed.  It is a celebration of the fine organization we are, and all that we do.

Sign ups are on the clipboard in the gallery, so we will know how many to expect.  Let’s all be there!

Art in the Park

Art in the Park was a delightful event. The weather was unseasonably mild, and except for some windy wind on Sunday afternoon, it was perfect art viewing weather. Here are some quick pictures your intrepid newsletter editor snapped before manning her booth:

RAA Annual Dinner Meeting Announced

RAA’s Annual Dinner Meeting will be held this year on Wednesday, June 2nd at 6:00 pm, at the Redlands United Church of Christ, 168 Bellevue Avenue. This will be our usual potluck dinner, and I speak from experience when I say the food is always great, and always plentiful. Bring your favorite dish to share; salads, main dishes or desserts. Table service and beverages will be provided by RAA. Come and have a great (and yummy) time.

In addition to the dinner, we will have the installation of new officers to begin the new club year. We will be recognizing those who have been serving and supporting RAA during this last year. It is an important and festive evening for RAA, and we hope you will all come. Please sign up on the clipboard the gallery so we can have an accurate head count to give the church, and have enough tables set up and ready for the evening.

For questions, contact Judith Sparhawk at (909) 793-1876 or jsparhawk746@yahoo.com.

Art-in-the-Park

Art-in-the-Park is shaping up to be another outstanding event!  Lots of artist signups, lots of publicity.  This year RAA will provide a central cashier station instead of each artist doing their own sales.  If you have been an artist or buyer at Art for Heaven’s Sake!, you’ll know what I mean…each artist will write up a sales receipt but the buyer pays at the central cashier station.  As an artist, you don’t have to make change or send the buyer off to get a charge card transaction.  As the buyer, you can pay for all your treasures at one time.  I think this will make buying easier!  Yea!

We will also have postcards sent out to the RAA mailing list.  Extra postcards were printed for our artists to mail to their clients and prospects.  For sale, 20 cards for $2.00.  If you get your addressed cards back to the gallery by Sat. April 24, we will pay your postage.  After April 24, you will need 26c postage on the cards.

Pick up an Exhibitor’s Information Sheet on the sign-up sheet clipboard.  It should answer all questions.

Upcoming Special Events at the Gallery

Photography Show-in-a-Show

Open to the public (no membership required), photography artists are invited to show their art February 8-13.  No entry fee.   “Around the World” is the theme.  Bring in your photos on Saturday, Feb. 6 between 10 am – 5 pm.  Photos must be ready to hang, framed and with wire.  No sawtooth hangers.  Public reception will be Friday evening, Feb 12 , 5 to 8 pm.

Multi-Media Mini Show Reminder

The Mini Show is unique to the Redlands Art Association.  What makes it different from all other judged exhibits is:

  1. ALL media is allowed for the show.  For example, artists submit photography, digital (computer) work, fiber art, drawings, glass, sculptures in wood- stone- and metal, as well as the traditional fine arts…hence the Multi Media part of the show, and
  2. There is a size limitation of the art piece to 14 ½ ” including base or frame (like it must fit in a 14 ½” cube) is the Mini part of the Show.

Any artist residing in California or a member of the Redlands Art Association may submit up to three recent pieces of work, of their original design.   Entry is in person, Sunday, March 7, 2010 10 am-4 pm, at the RAA Sales Gallery & Art Center. The show will be on display at the Gallery through April 9.

Winners of the competition will participate in over $ 2000 in cash and product awards.

Naturally, its success has spawned similar shows, however, the MMM Show is still the only one of this scale in Southern California. The prospectus for the show will be mailed to every artist who entered the show in the last 3 years, and will be at the Gallery soon… but start on your art Now!

Special Receptions

There are several events scheduled during the next year which include public receptions.  These receptions have been planned to increase awareness of RAA within our community.   This is what we have planned so far:

  • February 12, Photography Show Within a Show – Reception
  • March 12, MMM Evening Open House
  • April 17-18, Art Alive, gallery open to public to view Floral Installations
  • September ??, Black, White and Red – Regular Take-in Sept 24. Reception date to be determined.

You can plan on being part of these fun events.  Make sure that you have work that fits the Take-in themes.  We are hoping that the whole gallery will be black, white and red for the September take-in and that those who come to the reception will wear black, white or red.  Remember the EOS gallery receptions?  How fun were those?

Artists for a Cause

clip_image002

Sunday, Nov. 15, 11 am-5 pm

“Artists for a Cause” is the inspiration of six local artists who joined their talents to create an annual fine art show and sale to benefit a chosen local charity. This year’s recipient charity is The Associates of the Redlands Bowl. The 2009 show includes 14 local artists, including RAA members: Liz Coviello, Janet & Fred Edwards, Bill Garton, Candy Glendening, Adele Johnson and Judith Sparhawk. They are also hoping to introduce a couple of University of Redlands art students to art show and sales by including them as well. It will be held on Sunday, November 15, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the home of Adele Johnson, 560 Terracina, Redlands, CA. For more information, see their website: www.ArtistsforaCause.wordpress.com
